Princess of Shoreditch

A couple of months ago we enjoyed a fabulous tasting menu lunch at the Princess of Shoreditch. The food inspired by talented chef Ruth Hansom was very inventive and delicious. While we were their we’d heard about the Sunday lunch and how popular it was. This led us to this sunday when we decided to see for ourselves.

We arrived to a nice welcome before being escorted to our table which was downstairs in the far corner. We started with a drink while we browsed through the menu. This was a three course a la carte with a choice of four starters , five mains & three desserts with an additional option of a cheese course.

STARTERS

For our first course we chose the South Coast Prawn Cocktail with avocado & kohlrabi which gave the dish a lovely twist. I had to opt for the Terrine which is one of my favourite things. This consisted of Chicken , leek & pistachio with a date chutney that delightfully complimented the terrine along with a slice of bread.

MAINS

Now we moved onto the main event and we weren’t to be disappointed in the slightest. My wife chose the Yorkshire Dales Sirloin of Beef which in her words was amazing. I opted for the Stuffed Norfolk Black Chicken with a sourdough bread sauce that was heaven. These were accompanied with a fair size yorkshire pudding , seasonal vegetables , gravy , cauliflower cheese & roast potatoes that all made for a hearty delicious roast which we now could understand why it was so popular. We washed it down with a very nice portuguese red wine. This Papa Figos Douro 2019 was a fruity delight.

CHEESE COURSE

Before moving onto dessert we decided to opt for the additional cheese course which featured three fabulous British cheeses of Lyburn Gold , Kentish Blue & Bath Soft along with malt loaf , gooseberry chutney & dried grapes.

DESSERT

Now it was dessert time where my wife chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding with honeycomb ice cream a true pub favourite that was a sheer delight. I’m a big soufflé fan so went for the Pumpkin Spiced Souffle with a latte ice cream that was absolutely delicious so congrats to pastry chef Emily.

We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a fantastic sunday lunch. The food was amazing and along with friendly service which made it a nice pleasurable afternoon. I would highly recommend coming for a sunday roast where the 3 course menu priced at £39 I thought was excellent value for money. I for one are definitely looking forward to returning once again soon

Thank You Ruth and all your team for a fabulous visit and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
