The Crown Inn , Smallburgh

We were looking for somewhere to stay while we enjoyed a midweek break in Norfolk when I read about the Crown Inn. This was a bed & breakfast in a pub on the Yarmouth Road in the small village of Smallburgh. When I continued to read about this place it became very appealing indeed.

Firstly the location which was only a thirty minute drive from either Cromer , Yarmouth & Norwich with other sightseeing ideas like Wroxham even closer. Secondly the room available was a suite which meant you would have a separate living room. Thirdly as it was in a pub where they served food in the evening we wouldn’t have to go anywhere other than downstairs in their dining room.

When we arrived on the monday we were given a nice friendly welcome from owner Linda and bar manager Jess before escorting upstairs to our room. This had a nice sized bedroom with separate lounge & shower room. It also included tea & coffee facilities. Once unpacked we went downstairs and asked if their was anywhere close by where we could stretch our legs to which they gave us a few options.

BREAKFAST

The breakfast menu was small but the standard of the food was very high. You had a choice of Tea , Coffee & Orange Juice followed by Porridge , Granola & Cornflakes. Then you could either have a breakfast muffin or the Full English breakfast along with toast , jam & marmalade. They do also try their very best to accommodate if you have any dietary requirements. We opted mainly for the cooked breakfast which was excellent and also tried the granola , cornflakes & muffin which were also a delight and does in fact set you up nicely for your day ahead.

BREAKFAST

BAR & DINING ROOM

Apart from the monday evening which is the only time food is not available we enjoyed some fantastic pub grub which was just what was required after a long day. The menu consisted of four starters a good selection of main courses and a delightful choice of desserts which are on the board. I would highly recommend asking what is homemade at the pub as it was delicious.

STARTERS

We enjoyed a fantastic selection of starters including Prawn & Crayfish Salad , Soup , Falafel & Nachos.

STARTERS

MAIN COURSES

The main courses were good old fashioned pub food but were absolutely delicious. The Hunter’s Chicken , Homemade Steak & Ale Pie , Rump Steak , Scampi & Chicken Burger were amazing and accompanied by either chips , mash , peas , salad or a selection of vegetables. This really was heavenly pub food done well.

DESSERTS

As a dessert lover myself I couldn’t wait to try theirs and I’m delighted to say I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. The homemade Crumble , Syrup Sponge , Chocolate Cake and Treacle Tart were fabulous and served with either cream , custard or ice cream.

DESSERTS

From here you could then finish of the evening by enjoying a selection of local drinks in the bar or in the peace and tranquillity of the garden. There was always a great atmosphere and where all the locals were very friendly and offer some good local knowledge. I would recommend popping in even if your not staying as the young team of staff led by Jess will make you feel very welcome.

So after a fabulous four night stay it was time to say goodbye. I can’t thank everyone highly enough for making us feel very welcome. From breakfast to evening meal and in the bar it’s been an absolute pleasure to meet you all. I would definitely recommend a visit as this place is in a great location. The road it’s on is quite busy but personally didn’t bother us at all.

Thank You Linda , Jess and all the team for a delightful stay and look forward to seeing you all again someday.
