Core at Home (2)

This was yet another amazing dining experience enjoyed in the comfort of our own home. A couple of months ago we ordered Core at Home for the first time and it was absolutely fabulous. This led us to want to order it again and to no surprise it was equally as memorable. The menu this time was very much dedicated to spring as the courses included turbot and chicken as well as the famous potato dish. We received our video of Clare on the friday which guides you through the cooking and plating of each dish on the menu. I would recommend to watch this at least twice as it will make things a lot easier on the day. So now on to saturday where we waited for our delivery to arrive. Once here we took it into the kitchen and as per instructions laid everything out so that you knew which items were going with each dish. But as before you can’t really go wrong as each item is clearly labelled. We started with the sourdough bread & snacks to which a couple of them along with the bread just had to be warmed in the oven. The snacks were a Black Truffle Gougere , Foie Gras Tart & Madeira Jelly & Chicken Wing glazed with Honey & Thyme.

So now it was onto the first course and the famous Potato & Roe. With the potato in the oven you can heat the sauce in the pan and minutes later with tweezers at the ready you can plate your dish. If you closed your eyes and started to eat it you really could be in the restaurant as it was amazing. The next course was the Cornish Turbot with garden peas , lettuce , spring onions & pea veloute. This really was a fabulous spring dish as the turbot was perfect and the freshness of the accompaniments made it and absolute delight.

Now we moved to the main course of Roast Merrifield Chicken with stuffed morels , asparagus & wild garlic. This came with a side of mashed potato , chicken sauce & chicken skin. Once again another dish the took little time cooking with the result being stunning. To say it was one of the best chicken dishes I’ve eaten would be an understatement. This led us onto dessert a Chocolate , Hazelnut & Coffee Tart that literally just had to be removed from the fridge and plated. The aroma and taste from these three flavours was simply stunning.

We finished with a chocolate feast as first we had the Petit Fours of Salted Caramel Chocolates & Passion Fruit with Timut Pepper Marshmallows. This was followed by the the Core Handmade Chocolate Box consisting of 6 x salted caramel & 6 x passion fruit & timut pepper. Believe me they were all like little drops of heaven.

To finish the afternoon we relaxed on the comfort of our sofas and enjoyed a couple of fabulous cocktails from Ale. Jane’s signature cocktail the Gin & Pickle and for myself the Whiskey & Seaweed. These were an absolute fabulous way to end a another truly memorable dining experience from Core by Clare Smyth and her amazing team.

So that’s it I’m afraid and a fabulous afternoon’s delights comes to an end. This really is an experience I would highly recommend. To have Michelin Star quality food in the comfort of your own home where the standard is nothing short of excellence is amazing. So if your looking for a special treat before we can once more visit restaurants in person then I would make a reservation now. Looking forward to my next Core extravaganza which will be at the restaurant itself at the end of May.

Thank You Clare , Rob , Jonny and all the team for another fantastic afternoon and looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
