The Greyhound Pub and Dining

On our last visit in August we had such a fantastic evening with Daniel , Margriet and all the team that we couldn’t wait to return. We were also very keen to try their sunday lunch menu. So with this in mind we booked a cheeky overnight stay in a local hotel and set off for Beaconsfield. We had a nice little walk around the town before arriving at the Greyhound where we received a fabulous welcome back from all of the team. We were then escorted to our table which on this occasion was to be upstairs. It’s a delightful setting and reminds you of a living room from years gone by. We’d just got comfortable when over came head chef Adam for a quick chat about where we’ve been dining out recently and tell us about a few plans for the future before heading back down to the kitchen. We were then left in the capable hands of Hannah who along with being very knowledgable about the food and wine was pleasant and polite throughout our lunch making her a real credit to the restaurant. We then looked at the menu where had the choice of A la Carte with the additional roast dishes or the Tasting Menu. But it was the roasts that we’d come for this time so our decision was made.

We started with a fantastic selection of snacks which included Crumpet with parmesan & onion , Beef Cheek with beer mayonnaise & Carrot with coriander & hazelnut. These were followed by the Amuse Bouche of fermented green tomatoes & onion which was accompanied by the Sourdough Bread & Black Olive tapenade butter.

Next to arrive was our first course where we chose the Cornish Mackerel with ajo blanco & fermented chilli and the Mushroom with lemon thyme , cobnut & galangal. The mushroom dish which although was quite earthy it tasted amazing as well as being delightfully refreshing.

Now it was roast time where we chose the Hampshire Pig Belly with apple sauce & crackling and the Highland Rump of Beef with garlic potatoes & yorkshire pudding. The roasts were accompanied by a selection of vegetables , crispy roast potatoes and a fantastic side order of jerusalem artichokes with blue cheese & almonds. Both roasts were cooked perfectly and were deliciously quite rich in flavour. We matched the roasts with the recommended wine selections stated and they were indeed excellent choices.

A little rest was needed before moving on to desserts. This gave us a chance to have a chat with Daniel & Margriet. We were then presented with a delightful and refreshing palate cleanser consisting of Watermelon & Mint. This led us onto dessert where we opted for the Plums with hazelnuts & yoghurt as well as the Strawberry with coconut & coriander. We both enjoyed our desserts and were a great way to finish a fabulous lunch.

We finished with coffee and petit fours before we were joined at the table by Daniel & Margriet who also treated us to a glass of their homemade bailey’s. It was nice to sit down with them both and chat about any future plans they have especially when it’s very hard for the hospitality industry at the moment. But they certainly do seem very focused and in my opinion they are definitely heading in the right direction.

This brought to an end a truly fabulous afternoon where we enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch of great food and service. This place really must be put high on your dining list and I can say this with the fact that we would willingly travel the hour to get here as we feel it’s definitely worth it. So yes I would highly recommend a visit and personally can’t wait to again soon.

Thank You Daniel , Margriet , Tom , Adam and Hannah for a fantastic lunch and wish you all the best for the future
