The Greyhound Pub and Dining

We were so pleased to have finally been able to visit the Greyhound Beaconsfield last night. This was due to the fact that this is where we were heading the day COVID-19 struck. I am also delighted to tell you that it was definitely worth the wait as this turned out to be a truly fantastic evening. We arrived at the pub which is set on Windsor End road and were given a friendly welcome by Margriet and the team. We decided to have a drink first which was in fact a complimentary glass of english sparkling wine brought to us by Daniel who with great delight personally welcomed us to the pub and also decided to stay and have a nice chat. While enjoying our drinks and a snack we had a look at the menu where they offer an A la Carte or our choice the Tasting Menu with wine pairings. There were also a selection of snacks which you can enjoy at the beginning or as we did to have them separately throughout the menu.

Chickpea & Chilli Jam

It was now time to head into the restaurant but not before sanitising your hands. The dining area is absolutely beautiful and very ornate. Each table was separated by very fashionable screens. I was also pleased to see that other than the staff that bring out the food no one was wearing a face mask or shield. This personally just makes you feel much more comfortable.

So now let’s move on to the main reason we were here the food & drink which started with a delightful Amuse Bouche consisting of Courgette & Pea brought to us by our Tom our waiter for the evening who it was an absolute pleasure to have met. This was followed by Focaccia Bread and amazing Olive Butter.

Just before our first course came one of the snacks the Potato with Avruga Caviar that was just heaven. This led us on to the start of the tasting menu with the King Oyster Mushroom with yellow beetroot & marjoram which you felt would be quite earthy yet was delightfully refreshing on the palate. Before the next course came the second snack a Crumpet with parmesan & onion that was to die for. So yes now to our second dish a fabulous Devin Crab with katsu & coconut that surprised us as it was served cold but was absolutely delicious.

We then moved on to our third snack a Carrot with coriander & hazelnut before enjoying our next course of Lamb Tartare with red pepper & hispi cabbage that was a very nice change from the usual beef tartare. This led to our final snack of Beef Cheek with black garlic that you could have eaten the whole evening. This moved us nicely on to the main course a fantastic Highland Short Rib with XO & carrot that really made the dish lighter than you would normally expect but definitely an excellent combination of flavours. I have to say that each dish was perfect matched by an excellent selection of wines chosen by Margriet.

Now it was on to the cheese course and this was a fabulous change from the usual with an Isle of Wight Blue Cheese served on a plate with nuts & berries that was delicious. This followed by a sweet pre dessert consisting of Balsamic & Fennel an interesting yet amazing combination. Now it was time to finish with dessert a White Chocolate with raspberry & cardamom that was delightfully nice & light.

Before finishing with a coffee & petit fours we were in for a nice surprise as owner Daniel took us for a guided tour of the pub , restaurant & garden including telling us some history of the building. When we returned to the table where it was also nice for head chef Adam to come over for a quick chat himself.

Petit Fours

This really was a fantastic dining experience and one that I would highly recommend. If you’re in the area this definitely is a must visit and I for one cannot wait to return.

I would like to say a big Thank You to Daniel & Margriet for a fabulous evening. To Tom for looking after us. To head chef Adam for the amazing food which was matched perfectly by Margriet’s fantastic wine pairings. Wishing you all the best and look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
