The Frog Hoxton Revisited

Our previous three visits have always left us wanting to return as soon as possible. This is due to the very creative food by Head Chef Jamie and his team and the excellent service led by Restaurant Manager George. All this in a place that has a hip and trendy atmosphere that gives you a great feel as soon as you walk in. So now it gives me great pleasure to tell you that based on yesterday’s visit the bar has been raised even higher level as the food was the best we’ve eaten hear so far. This was matched with some stunning wine pairings that complimented each course perfectly and along with the great service made this an afternoon to remember. The restaurant itself is in a nice location on Hoxton Square and only a fifteen minute walk from Liverpool Street Station which give you the opportunity to have a good walk around this now trendy part of East London.

We arrived at the the restaurant and upon entering we were greeted by George who delightfully welcomed us back before escorting us to our table which was by the window and gave you a great view of the long open kitchen. Once seated we were treated with a complimentary glass of english sparkling wine. We was then given the menus to which there are a choice of two. The first being the A la Carte and the second is the Tasting Menu. Our decision just like our previous visits was to chose the tasting menu but this time with a couple of additions.

First to arrive were a fabulous selection of snacks which consisted of Heritage Carrots , roasted hazelnuts & mint a Cod , shallot , jalapeño & kohlrabi then finish with a heavenly Chicken Caesar. This was followed by the bread and the amazing chicken butter that is something not to be missed.

Now it was time for the first course where my wife decided to choose the supplemented dish a Lobster Bisque with Thai Basil. I opted for the Retired Dairy Tartare with Sprouts & Horseradish which was absolutely stunning as apparently was the lobster bisque.

This led us onto our next course and the Adam Handling signature dish of Celeriac , yolk , apple , dates & truffle which is just amazing so you can see why it’s always on the menu. We followed this with the Hake , yellow curry , cucumber & kaffir lime that was an absolute delight. To accompany this we had a side dish created by chef Enrique of Tempura , romesco & calcot and to his delight it received a thumbs up from us and was also a great accompaniment with the hake. These dishes were paired beautifully with a Matthiasson 2017 Chardonnay from the Napa Valley.

We now moved onto the main course of Sutton Hoo Chicken , purple sprouting , miso , lime & garlic that was amazing. Together with the chicken we had the side dish of Crispy Artichoke with sour cream & chive. This was paired by another great wine a Ochota Barrels Grenache.

Now it time for heaven as we had the ultimate pleasure of once again enjoying the amazing Cheese Doughnuts along with a fabulous fruity Montepulciano Vola Vole Italian red wine.

Now after our palate cleanser which did divide us a little as my wife thought it was a bit to sweet but for my sweet palate I really enjoyed it. This was a British Barley sorbet. So yes now it was dessert time and where without us even saying anything they brought us all three. The first was a Cheese , beetroot & szechuan which we felt would also be a great idea for a cheese course. The second an Apple , koji & almond then to finish a Rhubarb , gateau basque & yoghurt and yes we weren’t disappointed in the slightest.

We finished with a coffee to end a fantastic dining experience. A big thank you to Jamie , Enrique and the team for some amazing food , to George and staff for the amazing wine selections and great service. To me a visit to this restaurant is a must and so therefore won’t surprise when I say that I would highly recommend putting it on you list of places to eat. I for one am certainly looking forward to my visit.
