The Black Horse

We decided to visit the Black Horse in Brentwood on Boxing Day as our previous visits during the course of the year had been good ones. As we’d enjoyed good food with friendly service in a place with a great friendly atmosphere. So when we were looking for somewhere to take my wife’s parents out for a Xmas treat we looked no further than here. They were doing a reduced menu of 3 courses for £26.95 which seemed to be great value for money. There only requirement was that you had to choose your dishes in advance which was not a problem and made it easier all round on the day. We arrived on a horrible wet day but the greeting we received from manager Leigh was so friendly you straight away forgot about the weather outside. We decided to have a pre lunch drink in the bar where we received our first delightful surprise as these were complimentary.

It was then time to be seated at our table where on arrival was our second little surprise of a box of chocolates from manager Leigh. Then just before our starters she came over to the table where we were able to say thanks and it didn’t stop there as she presented us with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as a final thank you for visiting them again. These were fabulous gestures and were really appreciated by all of us. It was now time to move on to our first course.

STARTERS

We chose the Crab , Prawn & Salmon Tart , the Duck & Port Parfait and the oven baked Button & Portobello Mushrooms. All three dishes were very nice and a great way to start.

MAINS

Now it was time for the main courses and here we chose the Roast Turkey , the Roasted Monkfish & the Wild Boar Ravioli along with the side dish of Cauliflower Cheese. These dishes were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

DESSERTS

After a little rest it was then time for us to end with desserts the Christmas Pudding , the Dark Chocolate Marquise , the Mulled Plum Tarte Tatin & the Chocolate Brownie. These desserts were absolute heaven and a fantastic way to finish.

We finished with tea & coffee to bring to an end a fantastic Boxing Day lunch. I’d like to say a big Thank You to Leigh and her team a especially our waitress Jackie for really looking after us. We enjoyed great food and service in a lovely friendly atmosphere. I have to say the 3 courses for £26.95 really did prove to be excellent value for money. I would highly recommend a visit and I for one will definitely be returning again in the New Year.

    1. I did a review for them last December and she said the next time we visited our meal would be complimentary. We’ve been back a couple of times since but we couldn’t believe what she did for us on Boxing Day. So with that I decided to do another review for her
