My Foodie Skiathos

The island of Skiathos is just an amazing place to enjoy a holiday. This is enhanced as we found out last year by enjoying some of the finest Greek food in some fantastic restaurants. This year it was great to revisit three of our favourite restaurants from a year ago while also trying three other places.

We started on our very first night by heading to the top of Papadiamantis street and make a return visit to Taverna Polykratis to take on the challenge of the Skewer Greek Kebab for Two. It’s a giant kebab that is so tender that it is delicious. This is a great restaurant where not only is the food amazing & the staff are very friendly. Another plus is that you get a good view straight down the Main Street.

On the Saturday night we headed of to Basilikos Restaurant which is nicely tucked away in one of the many side streets. The majority of the restaurant is outside with a nice courtyard feel. The food here created by Chef Nikos Vrettos is excellent. They also a nice selection of Greek wines and along with the very friendly service you can see why this place is very popular. I would highly recommend a visit and would definitely make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Sunday evening we went for a little stroll around the side streets and came across this delightful little courtyard that was attached to the Mouria Tavern & Hotel so decided to give it a try. This turned out to be a great decision as we enjoyed some fantastic food and once again the service was very friendly. Will definitely make a return visit here the next time we’re in Skiathos.

On Monday we visited Gravisi an Italian which claimed to make the best pizzas in Skiathos. Although the pizza and pasta dishes were nice and the staff were friendly I reminded myself of an old saying (When in Rome).

We also made two visits during daytime and some fantastic Gyros at Souvlaki Strike. This place is on the main street and is perfect for anytime of the day whether you just want a quick snack or something more. This place would be ideal for families and they also have an added plus of doing takeaways.

Now on to Tuesday evening where we enjoyed a return to Ergon Skiathos for some fantastic dishes from their Meze menu. This restaurant is very modern and also has a great addition of an onsite delicatessen. This place is halfway down the main street and has inside and outside dining areas. Not only is the food very good but is matched by excellent service so therefore I would definitely recommend a visit.

Our penultimate evening took us back for a second visit of the week to Taverna Polykratis to sample more of their fantastic food. I would definitely visit this restaurant as much as I can. Definitely one of my favourites.

It was now time for our last night and we couldn’t help but return to the fantastic Basilikos Restaurant. The food and service was once again excellent making this a great way to finish our week. Will definitely be back as this place is a big favourite of mine.

So I think you’ll agree I’ve had a fantastic Foodie week in Skiathos and one I’m looking forward to repeating once again next year. I hope you enjoy these recommendations if you visit Skiathos.
