The Hoop

It was a real pleasure as we returned to the Hoop a great little pub in the village of Stock on saturday for one of their Tasting Menu evenings. The evening was set upstairs in the lovely setting of the Oak Room restaurant. The menu consisted of five courses created by Head Chef Phil and each course matched with wines chosen by David McDonald from Cellar 12 in Writtle , Chelmsford. The evening started with a welcome glass of Spumante and some delicious Focaccia bread. Our first course was a fantastic Game Ravioli with Pecorino a truly great way to start. We then moved on to a delightful Scallop , Apple & Vanilla

SCALLOP , APPLE & VANILLA

The next dish was the main course and definitely the highlight of the evening an amazing Saddle of Venison , braised shoulder croquette , quince & beetroot and matched perfectly with a Rive Barbera d’Asti.

SADDLE OF VENISON

We then moved on to the cheese course and a fabulous Comte Cheese Soufflé with Toasted Hazelnuts.

COMTE CHEESE SOUFFLÉ

We finished with a dessert from heaven a truly fantastic Gypsy Tart with pear sorbet for a dessert lover like myself this was just perfect.

GYPSY TART

This rounded of a fabulous evening of great food and wine which was also matched by excellent service from Michelle and her wonderful young team. .I would definitely recommend a visit to the Hoop not just for one of these evenings but to sample the food from their other menus either in the Oak Room or downstairs in the Pub.
