My Joyous Foodie June

Well I have to start by saying this was a very memorable month which finished with our amazing Anniversary week of celebrations. I had the pleasure of dining at four restaurants for the first time plus making a return to three others after enjoying previous visits. The month certainly got of to a fantastic start with a first visit to Chef Tom Brown’s Cornerstone in Hackney Wick to enjoy some amazing fish tapas and with Tom at the helm plus the development of the area this restaurant can only be destined for success. I for one am looking forward to returning soon. The following Saturday took me to my next new restaurant the New London in Chelmsford, Essex. We went with friends for lunch and although the food & service was good it was a bit noisy due to the fact they do a bottomless Prosecco Lunch deal. I would return though but probably at a different time of day. On the sunday we stayed in Essex with a return once more to our favourite Haywards in Epping for a delightful Sunday roast.

So we’re now halfway through the month and of to another new restaurant. This time we headed to Soho for some fantastic Italian Tapas at Polpetto which a great little place and perfect for a quick snack or as we experienced a relaxing couple of hours savouring as many of the fabulous dishes we could. On the Sunday it was back to Essex and a return to the Magic Mushroom in Billericay for a Fathers Day Sunday Lunch. They certainly have redeveloped the restaurant making it more modern and the food was still as good as we remembered.

Now we move on to the last week of the month and this was a week that will definitely remember for a long time as it was our Anniversary week of celebrations. It started with a fabulous visit to the Michelin Starred L’Ortolan in Reading for a fantastic Discovery Tasting Menu evening where the food was excellent matched with good wine and friendly service. The building that the restaurant is in is stunning with a delightful patio and garden area which are ideal spots to enjoy a drink before dinner. On the Wednesday it was our actual anniversary so there was only one place we could go and yes back to our favourite Haywards for a delightful Tasting Menu. Yes we love this place so if you are in Essex it’s a must visit as Chef Jahdre Haywards’s food just keeps getting better and better

We ended the week and the month at Core by Clare Smyth where we were treated like royalty from the moment we entered until we left. Greeted by the restaurants managers on arrival who even posed for a photo. Then while we were enjoying a cocktail before lunch members of staff popped over to say hello . Once seated at the table we then found that they’d created a special menu for us with messages of congratulations written inside. The food and service is Michelin Stars worthy and surely only a matter of time before these accolades come along. This was truly a fantastic experience and one that will live long in the memory . Thank You Clare , Rob , Jonny and the Team
