Our Anniversary Week

Well I have to say our Anniversary week turned to be one that we’ll remember for a long time. It started what a trip to Reading to dine at L’Ortolan but earlier in the day we checked into an absolutely fabulous little B&B called the Cricketers in Spencer’s Wood. On arrival we were greeted with tea an homemade cake while having a nice little chat with the owners Brian & Alma. The rooms were very modern and spotlessly clean with a nice spacious room and a double sized walk in shower in the bathroom. Our evening took us to the Michelin Star restaurant L’Ortolan in a fabulous location for our first dining delight of the week. We opted for the 10 course Discovery Menu which was amazing as was the wine and service. We had a delightful continental breakfast before heading off home.

Our next outing was on the Wednesday our actual Anniversary itself and a visit to our favourite Haywards Restaurant in Epping which is always a pleasure. We enjoyed a fantastic Tasting Menu and were delighted to try some new dishes. The service was once again excellent. There was also a nice surprise for my wife when my good friend Lou Stokes brought to the restaurant a fabulous flower arrangement from her shop the Botanical Shed in High Roding, Dunmow

To finish the the week was a return to the amazing Core by Clare Smyth where we were absolutely treated like royalty. From the moment we arrived being greeted by Rob , Davide & Ben they couldn’t have done anything more and made our visit one that we’ll remember for a very long time. While enjoying a delightful cocktail at the bar any member of staff who spotted us went out of their way to come and say hello and to welcome us back. There was also time for a photo which they put in a frame for us to take home. Before being seated we had time for a quick hello with Clare & Jonny. When we arrived at our table there was a card from the team wishing us Happy Anniversary and even the menu which was personally created for us and even had Clare and the teams best wishes written inside. The food was truly amazing with dishes such as Scallop Tartar , Potato & Roe & Steak au Poivre like you’ve never had before and also a Cherry Bakewell with a difference. The food was matched by fantastic wine selections from sommelier Gareth. The service was of the highest quality which is everything you expect when you dine here. We can’t Thank them highly enough for a memorable afternoon.
